Simple Harmonic Motion, or SHM, is Worcester Polytechnic Institute's best (and only) all-male a cappella group. Founded in 1982 under the name Baker's Dozen, SHM changed its name in 1994 to the more fitting (and nerdy) Simple Harmonic Motion. Despite its tech school pedigree, SHM has a long and proud history of musicality and personality. When together, the group not only makes a profound sound, but knows how to have a good time on road trips, retreats, and overnight gigs. SHM is usually found shaking its groove thing, finding something to pumpkin, eating massive quantities of snacks, or maybe even learning a new song.

Simple Harmonic Motion is available for private functions and parties, collegiate performances, high-school and middle-school a capella and vocal workshops, as well as public performances of all kinds. Take a look at our contact page to get in touch with us or book us for a performance.

SHM News and Announcements

¤ Mid-B Term Update

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

SHM's performance at Brandeis was great (like last year). A big thank-you goes to UTO for hosting us. Anyway, SHM has a number of upcoming gigs. First, SHM will be at Smith College for the whole weekend of the 5th of December. Look for us! (We'll be the group of 11 males). Also, we will be performing on the WPI campus on Tuesday the 9th of December in Riley Commons. Time still TBA. Come see us!

¤ SHM sings at Brandeis!

Saturday, November 15th 2008

Let it be known that Brandeis University does not lock their classroom computers. Consequentially, we are able to make this news post mere minutes before our gig with Brandeis' Up The Octave. Here's to a good show!

¤ SHM Auditions!

Wednesday, September 17th, 2008

The whirlwind that is auditions is all over, and now that the dust has settled, SHM finds itself with two new members! Congratulations to Sam Bartlett (our new Basso Profundo) and Ravi Raval (the 800th baritone in SHM).

¤ SHM back in full swing!

Friday, September 12th, 2008

WPI is back in session and SHM has hit the ground running! We have already had two shows this term-- one for the Hudson Arts Alliance and one with the Women of Note barbershop chorus. In addition, auditions for SHM are underway. We will be posting our new recruits soon. Our CD is also coming along quite well. Be on the lookout for a release show in mid-November. Details to come. Here's to another year of harmony and fun!

Red Sox Aftermath - Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

Everyone in SHM had an unbelievable time at Fenway. Not only did the anthem sound great, the Sox also won. Thank you so much to Dan Lyons and the Red Sox for giving us the opportunity. For those who didn't get a chance to see SHM perform, watch the video on YouTube. There are also a few others of SHM up, so check them out too!

Ragazzi Choir: What a fabulous website and singing of the national anthem at Fenway! No wonder the Sox beat the Yankees and got into the World Series! Come out to California for a tour so we can hear you sing!
